Flower Sentosa 2007

I like this shot with the colourful flowers blooming in the background! Picture below is MIL and me! Allan's family seldom takes pic. abit unlike my family. We like to snap snap at big big small small occasions. haha... but I just went ahead and want to take pic with MIL. =P

Here comes the Year of Pig! This is actually the mother pig with her piglets next to her! Isn't it cute?

It's quite hard to find a nice pose to take with the flowers. here's one albeit abit of spine-twisting involved.

Blog about Housing

I was so excited when I saw about a new online balloting system pushed out by HDB. It's going to be every 10th of even months starting from April. Starting from today, there is this online balloting exercise for mature estate at Clementi, Bukit Merah and Bedok. Without further ado, I quickly went online to apply. Closing date is 19th March. Ballot for Bedok 4-room flat. but realised that the price of these new standard flats are not cheap. It ranges from $210K to $263K. For that kind of pricing, I can get a resale flat at this pricing after minising the grant given by government. And I might not have to do any major renovation. Anyway, we shall see how the balloting goes.

Anyway, I'm glad that HDB has come up with a process on the sales of their un-sold flats. It always seemed to me that there are so many unsold flat yet they aren't any when I want to buy one. Argh! i think unless you are buying a flat at Sengkang/Punggol area, then there would definitely be flats available. But those would be low-level ones. And you can forget about 4 room. those left over are 5 room and Executive.

Maybe I have a roof over my head now. Hence, I don't feel the urgency to get one. I'm also looking for resale flats around PIL area. We just identified another area nearby but there are only 4 blocks of flat there! very little... been flipping through the papers but no one is selling there. As time goes by, it gets tiring. But we must perseverse!

Mind matters

I was reading an article this morning that said that all that stuff about needing to find a job that you love is overstated. Research shows that one's level of optimism and quality of relationships impact our happiness more than our job does.

Many of us think of our careers in term of happiness. That is, we look for work that makes us happy. She quoted from Dr Martin Seligman, "Positive psycology is not only about maximising personal happiness, but also about embracing civic engagement and spritual connectedness, hope and charity."

We need to find a job that meets those four basic standards for a decent job.

The traits of work that makes someone happy:
1) Stretches a person without defeating him
2) Provides clear goals
3) Provides unambiguous feedback and
4) Provides a sense of control

For me, I totally agree that the above 4 traits are really important and it's somehow tied to your boss. Besides that, work environment is also important. colleagues, work facilities, etc all plays a part too.

Chinese New Year

1st day of CNY was a really HOT day, in my context. We went 3 temples with my PIL. Phew! Sweat man with the smoke and the heat, think hubby almost kena heat stroke.

1st temple that we went to.

Temples were crowded but the most crowded that we encountered was the Guan Yin temple at 4-horse road aka Si Ma Lu. There were long queues at both side of the entrances. Imagine people standing under the hot sun waiting for the turn to get into the temple. You know what it reminds me? It's like secondary school days where you have assembly in the open parade ground under the scorching sun at mid-day. We queue for about 10 mins and gave up.

Took this pic while queuing up. Can u see the opposite side queue?

It almost seemed like a procession when the queue got moving.

3rd temple that I went to. Having lotsa Lion Dance.

Did lotsa visting. My CNY tradition (before knowing Allan) is that I would go to my 3rd uncle house for steamboat dinner on 1st day. After the dinner, my dad side relatives would come to my house at around 8pm. Then after my house would be my 2nd uncle house which would be the last stop for the day.

2nd day would be my mum's side gathering starting from lunch till late afternoon followed by dinner gathering at my "gu-gu" aka dad's sister side. this would last till very late too... cos we would play Black-jack over there.

If 3rd day no need to work, then I would go to my eldest cousin (my dad side) for a gathering.

Sounds busy? hee... used to it. Allan don't really like visiting relatives. I think he visits 2 relatives each year so he is used to that. So CNY is always stressful for me and... for him. My tradition and his clash terribly =( . Previous year, he will always be reluctant to go. And usually his face will be abit sian on the way there. So I heartache when CNY is here.

On New Year's eve, Allan was talking to his mum. He was 'complaining" about my tradition to MIL. Then I told her that my dad reminded me to visit my 2nd Uncle(who is currently the eldest in my dad side family) cos he's the eldest. The she replied "Ya, you must go and visit Kailing's elders relatives. You both just got married. Must go and visit as a show of respect." hee hee... v(-_-)v

I'm not sure whether is it MIL's words that changed Allan's attitude towards relative visiting or what. But this year round, his attitude has changed quite alot and it's for the better. =) We visited quite a number of my relatives and he's not upset like previous years. I reckon it's a good start to the New Year. At least we didn't quarrel because of relative visiting. still pretty lovey-dovey on the journey. haha...

The place where we placed the pig container at Chinatown. Below is a close-up shot.

My cousin's kid Javier on his "car". He was all ready to pose when I took out the camera. but it's hard to capture nice pic of him. He's very active!

Me and my cousin Pauline at my cousin's place today.

My sis and Pauline.

After today's visiting, I have given out all the necessary angpows. hehe... I realised something kinda tough. The scenario is like this. You begin giving out angpows and you realise some kids are gone missing. they might be playing somewhere else for that moment. So I must remember who and give them when they are back. really test my memory. Maybe next year should give when all the kids are around to avoid this problem. haha...

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Happy New Year to one and all! Wishing everyone a prosperous year ahead!

This is my 1st CNY as different role - A wife and a daughter-in-law! haha... Today was a busy and fun day. busy in helping here and there. Preparing the "gim zhem gu", sweeping b/f area and porch, bathing Xiaobai and trimming the fur around his mouth(the area there makes him look very dirty), driving my neighbour to do some last-minute shopping. haha... kinda kampong spirit! =P Doing some cleaning here and there.

Had a great reunion dinner at home! Ate lotsa abalone and fish (the 2 most prominent food that stuck in my mind). After sweeping the living room and kitchen area, it was 10pm! Time flies today! Took a bath and started preparing the angpows. Both Allan and I took out the crisp notes and started slotting in diligently. Abit like assembly line. He count notes, I slot into angpows. Well, it's pretty exciting giving angpows for the 1st year. It's a blessing to be able to give! =)

After that, we went out for a date. Hee... to East Coast Park. had some dessert by the beach. I told him 95% will be Malays and Indians. My prediction was true enough. haha....

Reached home at 12plus.. And guess what, MIL super-on. She was in her pyjamas and she was sleeping. Then she woke up, came over and jio jio us to Chinatown!!!! Since she's so ON, the four of us all went (Allan, me, 2nd BIL and MIL). Eu Tong Seng road was closed. Luckily, we managed to find a lot at Club Street. hehe... There were alot of pple although it was One plus. Oh My God! It was quite fun although I hate to jostle with the crowd. At some point in time, I was pushed around... I haven't been to Chinatown during CNY for a loooong time.

I feel it's great to go there like tonight. We bought some piggy cute stuff back! Shall take pics tomorrow. =) Time for me to go sleep liao.

Time Flies Past

Today, something minor at work pissed me off. My project partner went on leave for today and I wasn't even aware of it. We are each other's backup, you see. I do inform her when I go on leave and she should too, logically speaking. Haiz...this is not the 1st time liao. She went on a one-week leave not too long ago and she only informed me the day before at 5.30pm with some tasks to help her follow up! We officially knock off at 5.30pm. I must think of a way to overcome this. hmm... thinking. Anyway, sometimes she do things in a weird manner.

Not in the Valentine's Day mood today. Saw that hubby was extremely stressed at work yesterday so don't think he's in the mood to celebrate. Anyway, we just came back from a fast-food feast. We had not eaten fast food for a looong time. Very sinful. I'm very tired but still feeling quite full. better wait a while before I turn in. Happy that I got a card though. it means alot to me.

Not really looking forward to Chinese New Year too. Don't know why. Everything seems so different this year. 1st time having reunion dinner at current home. Not quite sure what to do what during CNY...schedules, etc. 1st time giving out angpows. But that's life. There's always a First in whatever that we do. Take things as it go man.... hehe... will blog about my 1st CNY as a married couple.

Work is busy and going to be busier after Chinese New Year. Hubby will be off from work the whole of next week. I haven't apply leave for next week. I want to judge my work and see if it's feasible to take 3 days off.

Think I'm going to reflash my memories of last year's CNY. hee... the Pros of keeping a blog.

V-day Card....and more new year preparation pics

V-Day card from Allan! It was a surprise this morning to see it under my handphone. hee... I love the flowers! **feel very sweet in my heart**
Interior of the card...
Our supermarketing trip to NTUC last Sunday. To push this trolley back to our car is quite tedious.
1st time giving angpows this year! It's time to the bank for new notes exchange! p/s: 1st year of marriage still can receive angpows. *just knew it today* haha...
Time for me to go pak-tor with hubby liao! ciao!

Pics time....

Some of the pineapple tarts that I baked on Saturday.

Saw this product at Giant last Sun. Found it weird! It's a toothpaste advertisement. "Keeps breath fresh at night. Prevents Morning bad breath." The latter makes me ponder. We brush our teeth once we wake up from sleep. Morning bad breath??? 1st time I heard of this. Anyway, who cares about morning bad breath? haha...

1st time seeing a "laundry" service for bags and shoes. It's at Far East Square. They specialize in designer bag and shoes. See below.

New Food & Travel Magazine

In my fight against painful menses cramps, I bought the above 2 to combat it.
This was the magazine that I bought @ Cold Storage. It's wonderful for those who love to cook and travel!
In the pic is also my Camomile tea. It never fails to soothe the painful cramps and relaxes me.
There's also something that I want to say to Allan. Thank you dear. I know you have to put up with my mood. And also for being so thoughtful and patient with me. I don't know how I would survive it without you. hee..... =)

Menses blue - Office mode

I have been trying to blog last night. Something is wrong with my desktop, I think. *I need to seek hubby's help to solve it.* Hee... now using office laptop. Everything seems perfectly fine.

Super duper no mood to work today. Having menses cramp since yesterday. I hate this feeling. Took a picture of "What to buy when having menses cramp" yesterday but unable to log in last night so....

Anyway, will try to upload tonight. Saw this new magazine called Food and Travel @ Cold Storage yesterday and couldn't resist buying it! 30 Recipes and places to travel... I will attempt to cook something soon! The thought of cooking in the kitchen always make me nervous cos it's unfamiliar territory (at current home, not mummy home.) But after having fun baking pineapple tart last Sat, I feel more at ease in the kitchen. Shall see how. but at least until after Chinese New Year cos this weekend will be the "real pineapple tart baking session". Last Sat was like a trial run. We used 1 kg of flour then. this wkend => 6kg. So I will be super shag by then. hee... but the good thing is I don't need to "spring-clean" cos that wld be done by maids. heee...

Ok, time to go back to work. :( Wishing today will pass soon...
