Had always wanted to blog on this so that if kena #2, can refer back and don't make repeated mistakes...hehe....
This might not be the complete list. Will add on when i recall more. :P
Not all suit everyone. But at least in my own trial & error experiments, I get to know what works and what doesn't. And which are the pitholes I shld avoid in future.
1) Don't keep carrying baby. Carry him/her to feed. After feed is complete, put him or her down. If cry, do diaper check, make sure clothing is right for temperature, check if there's wind in stomach or need to burp. If not, just hold & calm them down, then put them down onto cot.
2) Train baby to sleep by themself when small. Don't latch to sleep or rock to sleep.
3) If preparing to breastfeed, I wld recommend Medela Freestyle pump or PIS. Expensive but works well and convenient even if wants to continue to bf when start working. I only got my Freestyle 2 wks before starting work. Kinda late... hence only able to partial bf. If got it earlier, maybe could have achieve total bf...
4) Cabbage leaves works well for engorgement. Hot towels don't work for me. (This is my personal experience)
5) I will eat minimal pig liver after giving birth... heard fm total-breastfeeding friends that they avoid pig liver as it will reduce milk supply.
6) Either get a netted bouncer or a combi baby chair that can incline totally flat so that can push baby here and there when doing chores.. http://www.taising.com/combichair.html
7) Must let baby get used to bottle-feeding by Mummy before they turn 3 weeks old. If not, might have problem getting them to drink from bottle esp if it's Mummy who bottle-feed. They would prefer breast to bottle anytime. Once they are used to the bottle, can latch and bottle-feed and they won't prefer one way or the other.
8) Get a changing station. Less strenous on the back. Ikea's changing station cost less than $60.
That's all I can think of for now. Will update again if I recall more points.
P/S: Currently, Allan's plan is to stop at 1 kid. Hope this list might be of use to my friends who are gg to have their #1 soon!
