Bread-making attempt!

Have been putting off doing this till I told myself not to be lazy! Decided to do it today! Hubby had ordered Luncheon meat bread. He will only be able to eat it after he knocked off later.

Checked with MIL what ingredients was lacking at home to make the bread. Went to buy yeast and bacon yesterday night. We spoke vividly about the types of bread last night. She wanted to make coconut buns. I told her we could make kueh dar-dar with the coconut as well. Felt it was cool man! She will fry the coconut and I can make the kueh's skin. hehe... teamwork!

After kneading the flour, yeast, salt, sugar, egg, milk, water and butter. Must let the dough rise to double its size. So during that one hour or so, I prepare the luncheon meat, egg mayo, etc. As I use luncheon meat or bacon for the bread filling, I decided to do some egg mayo so that Minah can eat cos all are pork. Veri thoughtful yah? =P

After the dough has risen to double its size, I cut out portions of doughs and let it rise for another 10mins.

Finally, time to add the fillings! This one is bacon + egg mayo. This one is purely egg mayo... I did 3 of this for Minah. keke... decided to put a "din xiang" on top of the bread to differentiate this. I didn't put any pic of luncheon meat. After putting in fillings of the 14 breads, gotta let it rise again for 15 mins... Alot of waiting time for bread to rise man! Finally, I could glaze it with egg and put it into the oven. This is my 1st batch of bread... 2nd BIL was very excited when it was done cos he was the one who announced it! I was still eating my lunch then. He went to check my bread for me automatically! Then said,"Kailing, think your bread is ready! It's brown in colour liao." I was so excited too and went to see immediately. not badz... I quickly take a plate and he took one bacon and egg out. He cut open and became my food taster together with MIL. That one, I think I stretched the dough too thin cos I wanna wrap the fillings. Some parts were abit crispy crispy. But still, they commented," Not bad".

FIL came by and I said,"You can have bread for your tea-time later. cos usually he has it at 4pm." He took one luncheon meat bun right away. And finished it and that was right after lunch. Comments:"Nice. Not bad"

Minah ate hers at a later time and told me,"It's nice."

This is my 2nd and final batch of breads.

Although it took me the whole morning till noon to finish the entire bread making process, the joy of seeing family members enjoying it really brought home a sense of satisfaction. I had fun too. Doing everything by myself and seeing that everything turned out well gave me a sense of achievement! =) I'm thinking of putting herbs next time into the bread liaoz. hee... Waiting for hubby to come home and try later...

Recipe for the bread can be found here: http://quickneasytreats.blogspot.com/2005/07/assorted-sweet-bun.html))

One tip: For the water, use 50% milk and 50%water. I used 3/4 of the portion in the recipe and generated 14 buns. So you can proportion it according to the number of buns you want.
